Online Tax Payments, (2nd Installment or Delinquent Taxes Only)

Payment of delinquent property taxes or the 2nd installment payment can be made by credit card or e-check through the Official Payments website.  There may be a fee associated with this service.  Payments can be made using Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover.  Do not use this link to make payments between December and January on your current tax bill.  These payments must be made to the City of Galesville.  Click here to proceed with payment.

Refunds

If your escrow check is larger than your tax bill, you will be issued a refund check. Refund checks are mailed the day after the monthly Council meeting. It is NOT the City’s policy to give out a refund upon payment of your real estate taxes.

2nd Installment

The 2nd installment is due by July 31st each year and is payable to the Trempealeau County Treasurer. The payment must be mailed to: Trempealeau County Courthouse, Attn: County Treasurer, PO Box 67, Whitehall, WI 54773.

A note about installment payments:
Missing one installment can be very costly to the taxpayer, because by law the County must charge interest of 1% per month.  If you miss paying the 1st installment on time, you lose the 2nd installment option.  All taxes become immediately due and will continue to accrue interest until paid in full.  If you miss paying the 2nd installment by July 31st, you will be charged interest back to February 1st.  The law does not allow the County to forgive any interest penalties no matter what the reason is for not making a timely payment.  If you are unable to pay the amount of taxes due at that time, it is always best to pay whatever you can and then contact your County Treasurer to set up a payment plan. The County Treasurer can be reached at (715)538-2311, Ext 219.

Mortgage Escrow Check Issues

  1. The City does not forward a copy of your tax bill to your mortgage company.  If your mortgage company requires a copy, it is the property owner’s responsibility to do this.
  2. As stated above, if your escrow check is more than your taxes, a refund will be issued, but not immediately.
  3. If you haven’t received an escrow check from your mortgage company and the due date is approaching, please call your mortgage company first.  If they indicate payment was made directly to the City, then, call City Hall for verification.
  4. If you haven’t received a receipt showing your taxes have been paid and the due date is approaching, please call your mortgage company first.  If they indicate payment was made directly to the City, then, call City Hall for verification.
  5. The City will not endorse your escrow check over to you in exchange for a personal check.
  6. Should your escrow check cover the entire tax bill and you wish to pay only the 1st half, it is not the policy of the City to refund the 2nd half to you.  Have your bank/mortgage company make out two (2) separate checks, one for the City, the other for you.
